The American Planning Association’s National Planning Awards honors planning efforts, initiatives and individuals working to make safer, stronger and more just communities for all. In the Federal Planning Division, within Category 5: Outstanding Environmental Planning Project, Michael Baker received an Honor Award, the top award, for its work on the Sustainability Component Plan (SCP) for the Customs and Border Protection’s Advanced Training Center (ATC).
Michael Baker’s SCP established goals and strategies to develop and maintain sustainability in the energy, water, waste and stormwater programs at ATC. This SCP supported the Center’s original plans for substantial gains in energy, waste, stormwater, and water management processes at the site and leveraged the ongoing planning momentum at the Center on the heels of the recently completed ADP. Michael Baker completed the SCP in an effort to continue to develop the site as a model training center, delivering both the practical and implementable strategies the onsite personnel desired as well as aspirational ideas consistent with the bold original plans for the site.
